We kept the design consistent with the age and feel of the neighborhood. Natural stone was the way to go. After roving all of the soil to make room for the new parking lot, we began the installation of the retaining wall.
We used Pennsylvania Antique Fieldstone and Langhorne Wallstone. The walk was built with 2-4 inch thick irregular shaped bluestone. Slabs of bluestone, fieldstone, and old bluestone curbing from the neighborhood were used to fashion the steps.

The complete installation was done with no mortar or concrete. In our climate, which is subject to repeated freeze thaw in the winter months, properly installed dry laid walks and dry stacked stone walls maintain their structure.
And finally a thee quarter inch river stone was used to pave the parking lot. |
